The Facility Master Plan Meeting that took place at Proviso Mathematics and Science Academy (PMSA) on December 05, 2017 was the first community meeting for all the ten Proviso Township villages to meet with the architects of Perkins + Will, who are going to do major renovations for Proviso East High School in Maywood, Proviso West High School in Hillside, and PMSA in Forest Park.
Perkins + Will are an architect company that are leaders in educational design since 1935. They also build the high school campus Proviso West in Hillside, IL in 1957. They presented a slideshow to the community members and stated that “education and students are 1st, and construction is 2nd.” They also said in the slideshow that “innovation of the school district,” “tax payers to fund the school improvement project,” and “inform the board of education members.”
They also showed “Six Guiding Principles” on their slideshow. 1.) student centered “active learning (read, hear, see, learn, and experience). 2.) Physical environment that are flexible. 3.) Technology/Media 4.)Be environmentally efficient.
The guys from Perkins + Will split the audience up into 3 groups, and passed out a sheet of what the Proviso Township community needs to make the renovation of the three high schools a huge success. All the groups stated that Proviso East High School needs major renovation, because it’s more than a 100 year old high school campus. Proviso East and Proviso West needs air conditioners, technology/media, balance with the old and new, outside programs and partnership, more gymnasiums, community to be flexible to use, and students can be proud of.
Part 1 was a good turnout! Proviso District #209 did live stream the Facility Master Plan Meeting on their official YouTube account at https://youtu.be/VJYuprK9ED4. I highly recommend all the Proviso Township to watch this clip, if you guys didn’t make it to the meeting. There will be a Part 2 for the Facility Master Plan Meeting on January 23, 2018 at Proviso West; Part 3 on February 27, 2018 at Proviso East; and Part 4 on May 15, 2018 at PMSA. Please attend, because this is your tax dollars (your hard working money) that is going directly towards the high schools to help our students become leaders and opportunities for the future.
